About This Resource

This publication reviews UE's higher education claims received from 2011 to 2015 brought by students who were accused of sexual assault that resulted in monetary losses to UE or its members, including defense costs and settlements. Virtually all losses in claims by alleged perpetrators resulted from student-initiated litigation, whereas in claims brought by alleged victims, almost a quarter of losses arose from Office for Civil Rights (OCR) matters. The publication draws on common findings from the losses and recommends actions to avoid similar problems at other institutions.
