Many international travelers undertake activities unrelated to a study abroad trip before, during, and after the program. A 2015 United Educators (UE) study found that more than half of study abroad claims occur during these personal deviations. While these personal activities may not initially be covered by travel insurance policies, some institutions are successfully negotiating coverage with their travel insurance providers.
