About This Resource

This report, based on a review of UE's hazing-related claims, includes several steps institutions can take to help prevent hazing and create an environment where healthy initiation and rites of passage thrive:

  • Develop an anti-hazing policy and identify the consequences of violating it
  • Create a process for reporting and investigating hazing
  • Educate the campus or school about hazing
  • Encourage proper supervision and communication
  • Encourage healthy rituals for establishing group identity and pride
  • Include hazing prevention in an advisor or coaches’ job responsibilities and evaluation
  • Address alcohol’s role in hazing

Read the report for more details on each of these strategies.
