About This Resource

This checklist helps to establish guidelines that institutions should consider for employees, volunteers, contractors, and other adults interacting with minors on campus or in connection with an institution-sponsored program to keep students safe. Topics include:

  • Strategies for preventing one-on-one access to minors
  • Behaviors that should not be tolerated during interactions with minors, such as the use of alcohol or illegal drugs, vulgar language, or meeting with minors outside of established times for program activities
  • Supervising interactions between minors and employees, volunteers, and contractors

To reduce opportunities for misconduct and address inappropriate behavior early, educational institutions must be steadfast in establishing behavioral and supervisory standards for adults interacting with minors.
