About This Resource

This publication distills and analyzes data from independent K-12 school claims that were reported to United Educators (UE) from 2012 through 2016, with a focus on identifying the types of liability claims that were brought against our member schools most frequently and/or resulted in the highest losses. For example, slip and fall claims were brought most often, while discrimination claims—from both employees and students—were the costliest claims overall. Taking their own circumstances into account, school administrators may wish to use the study information to help identify appropriate types and levels of insurance coverage for their schools, as well as help them to decide the best ways to use limited risk management resources.
