About This Resource

Educational institutions must issue the appropriate supportive measures, remedies, and sanctions when sexual harassment is reported. K-12 schools and higher education institutions are responsible for the requirements under Title IX. Higher education institutions must also comply with the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act. Both Title IX and the SaVE Act regulate how institutions use supportive measures, remedies, and sanctions.

This checklist identifies steps institutions should take once a report of sexual harassment is received to support the complainant, the respondent, and the broader study body. It addresses:

  • What to include in the campus grievance procedures
  • Solutions to common challenges institutions face when implementing supportive measures
  • What to include in the investigation's final outcome
  • Recordkeeping recommendations
